HANOI FULL DAY BIKING TOUR TO VISIT ANCIENT VILLAGE
Overview
Very few tourists visit the village nowadays, and those who do are usually art students and journalists. Though a mere 30 kilometers away from Hanoi, Cuu Village today seems to be a forgotten city. Cuu village belongs to Van Tu commune, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi. Many people call it “western village” as it has preserved dozens of villas that were built in a typically European architectural style.
The village has been known for many years as a tailoring hub. Thanks to the industry, residents have become rich. Their prosperity is shown in the architecture of houses built in the first decades of the 20th century. The houses that bring western ancient architecture only add to the beauty and unique characteristics of the village by sitting alongside typically Vietnamese constructions.
What to Expect
7:30 AM. Meet up at your hotel. After a short briefing about the bike and the route, we head to Phu Xuyen district, to the west of Hanoi by car.
On the way, we will pass many rice fields and flower gardens, stop and take photo with the farmers is a good idea.
Arrive Cuu Village, we start the sightseeing tour through small alleys in the village. You will feel like being in a different world leaving all the noisy and bustling city behind. Around the village, there is no tall building.
The houses with 3 chambers and front big yards are typical here. Sometimes alternating between the ancient houses are pure Vietnamese French architecture houses, solid, polished and robust. The small details of the villas are carved fussy flowers, cranes, phoenixes. We will have lunch in a local family or restaurant.
After lunch, we continue cycling to Chanh nearby village where Ca Tru was sang so many years ago.
Ca Tru singing is a long-standing music tradition in Vietnam. Ca Tru singing began in the 11th century during the Ly dynasty. Vietnamese people called it “A Dao singing.” Legend says, in Hung Yen province in ancient times, there was a very graceful woman named Thi Hue Dao who had a beautiful voice. She used her singing to entice the Ming enemy (a dynasty of China who invaded Vietnam at that time), and then she killed them.
Therefore, Vietnamese people built a temple in this province to worship her and she is still worshiped there now. We will visit Chanh village Catru club and a performance is on request. Say goodbye with the “farmer artist” we go back Hanoi by car.

Dear Alex Tran, Now we are safely back to Västerås in Sweden and I have started to work again. We have had -20 deg C the last week so we miss the temperatures in Hanoi. Our memory from your fantastic country is still fresh in our minds and I am writing the diary on my computer. Your actions made our travel and stay in Vietnam safe and easy. I will always remember you as my dear friend and a very nice person...
